Khola Hawa

A social and cultural organisation

Khola Hawa

Khola Hawa was established as part of a larger initiative to reclaim the cultural space for nationalist Indians, headed by Dr. Swapan Dasgupta. The inauguration of the organisation was done by Sri Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition, West Bengal legislative Assembly. We have consistently tried to build up opinion in the cultural fraternity in favour of artistic freedom and against over-politicisation by channelizing different programmes and initiatives that transcend the religious and regional boundaries. The society aims at correlate tangible realisation of an artistic community to encounter with demanding modernity and also tries to highlight the distinctive qualities among different walks of life keeping resemblance to local tradition and the blurring of the boundaries between disciplines and our proud traditions by organizing thought provoking programmes.

We try to inculcate a feeling among everyone for a freedom to imagine, create and distribute diverse cultural expressions which are free of governmental censorship, political interference or the relatively abiding pressures of societal norms which include the rights of all citizens to have access to different forms of expressions which are essential for the wellbeing of a healthy society. We strive for the holistic preservation of the ideals, the heritage of the unique art, craft, music and environment.

The organisation also makes endeavours for empowering women by encouraging them to study, work and choose a career of their own without facing any restrictions so that they can take all her decisions for her social and economic development. We try to encourage them to stand for their education and the life of their own choice, their right to have access to opportunities and resources as well.

The Society always tries to make opportunities for the creativity of individuals and groups having traditional and cultural content for an artistic dimension and cultural value. We believe in the verbalisation of thoughts and the freedom of artistic and symbolic expressions as liberty and diversity form the foundation of a free society.
